What to Expect When You Get No Prep Veneers

No prep veneers can offer you several benefits when it comes to improving your smile. These can make your smile look better by fixing cosmetic issues such as gaps between the teeth. With traditional veneers, the dentist must prepare the teeth by removing some of the tooth’s structure. However, no prep veneers do not require this process.

Placing no prep veneers on the teeth

Veneers are extremely thin shells that are made out of strong materials. While traditional veneers are thin, the veneers can still add bulk to the teeth. This can look unnatural. In the past, a cosmetic dentist has needed to remove part of the tooth’s enamel to make room for the veneers.

First, the dentist will consult with the patient about the right veneer options. The dentist can help the patient determine the number of veneers to be placed. The patient and the dentist can decide together about the different color and size options that are available for veneers. The patient might also have X-rays done before the veneers are ordered.

For patients who have good enamel on their teeth, minimal or no preparation is needed. The no prep veneers can be bonded to each tooth directly. This is an extremely non-invasive procedure. Patients also will not experience tooth sensitivity and the procedure does not require anesthesia. Generally, placing no prep veneers will only require about two appointments.

Each veneer is custom-made for the tooth. After the veneers have come in, the cosmetic dentist will see that they are the right color and fit. Then the dentist will clean the teeth thoroughly. This will prevent bacteria from getting trapped between the veneer and the tooth. If any bacteria are trapped, the tooth can eventually decay.

Because the patient is only having the no prep veneers bonded to the teeth, the patient will most likely not require any anesthesia. The dentist can use cement to bind each veneer to each tooth. The dentist can use an ultraviolet light which will allow the cement to harden quickly. The patient will be ready to leave the office with a new smile after this procedure.

After no prep veneers are applied

After the veneers have been cemented in place, the patient might notice that there are a few rough spots. Usually, these spots are caused by extra cement that adhered to the veneer. This extra cement will wear off after a few days of normal eating and oral care such as brushing and flossing. However, if these spots do not wear off, the cosmetic dentist can easily remove them for the patient.
