Candidates for a Same Day CEREC Crown

A same day CEREC crown can be used to restore your teeth in only one day. You will not need to have multiple appointments to have impressions made and wait for the crown to come in. But you might be wondering if you are a candidate for this type of dental crown. Read on to learn more about whether or not you might be a good candidate for the same day CEREC crown.

When a patient might need a crown

A dental crown is a cap that goes over a tooth to restore its appearance. The crown will surround the tooth and go down to the gumline. A same day CEREC crown is usually made out of porcelain or ceramic so that it can better match the rest of the teeth in the patient’s mouth.

This allows it to blend well with the rest of the teeth so that others cannot tell that a patient is wearing a crown. Sometimes, a cosmetic dentist may choose to use this type of dental crown in the front of the mouth to cover an unsightly or worn tooth. There are several times that a patient might need a crown. This can include:

  • Covering a tooth with a strong replacement
  • Restoring a tooth’s appearance after decay
  • To protect the tooth after a root canal procedure
  • Covering up a worn tooth
  • Restoring the structure of a tooth
  • Making other improvements for cosmetic reasons

For a traditional dental crown, the patient needed to visit the dentist at least twice. These appointments required about one to two weeks of waiting in between them. The crown was created during this waiting period. In the meantime, the patient received a temporary crown that required the patient to be careful when eating or brushing. This temporary crown could easily break and require another visit to the dentist.

However, the same day CEREC crown does not require this waiting time. The dentist uses tools to take digital 3-D images of a patient’s mouth. A machine can then carve out the crown from a block of porcelain. If there are any mistakes, the dentist can use the machine to create a new crown for the patient on the same day.

The right candidate for a same day CEREC crown

If a patient is a candidate for a crown for any of the reasons above, then that patient is a candidate for a same day CEREC crown. Like traditional crowns, a same day CEREC crown is custom-made. This means that it can fit over any patient’s teeth. One of the main benefits that this type of crown can offer is that there is no waiting.
